Project Tasks
The study aims to identify the engineering and geotechnical characteristics and the physical and chemical properties of the soil. It includes examining subsurface layers to depths reaching 30.0 meters to understand soil nature and classify it geologically and from an engineering perspective. This helps ensure the soil’s bearing capacity for the proposed buildings in the studied plots. It also includes studying groundwater and its impact on buildings, identifying its chemical characteristics to select suitable construction solutions, reducing construction effort, and increasing the lifespan of buildings. The study also assesses the suitability of excavation material for use in backfilling.
Project Workflow
- Receiving the project sketches and relevant documents, and collecting available maps and site data such as public services and general master plan details.
- Conducting a field visit to collect site data such as type of surface soil, site topography, current ground level, common foundation types in the area, and checking for any structural issues or technical notes.
- Distributing boreholes with the required number and depths in accordance with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs requirements and the Saudi Building Code, coordinating with the concerned departments in Jeddah Municipality.
- Conducting field tests, collecting representative soil samples, preserving them properly, and sending them to the laboratory for testing.
