Project Description

Project Tasks

Historical Studies

The historical study of the 13 sites surrounding Quba Mosque represents a fundamental step prior to archaeological excavation and restoration works. It aims to understand the historical background and cultural context of each individual site. This study includes the collection and analysis of all available historical sources, whether written or oral, as well as the review of archival documents, old maps, aerial photographs, and any previous urban records. It also involves identifying the time periods associated with each site, examining historical usage patterns and their changes over time, and linking them to historical events and nearby religious and architectural landmarks—foremost among them, Quba Mosque. This stage aims to provide a solid scientific foundation that will guide subsequent excavation efforts and ensure the accuracy of restoration interventions, thereby preserving the historical value and cultural authenticity of these sites.

Archaeological Excavation and Restoration Works

In this project, the company worked on 13 sites to prepare dedicated studies for these historical locations. The scope of work included historical studies, archaeological surveys, magnetic and geophysical surveys, 3D laser scanning, topographical and architectural documentation, and archaeological excavation in accordance with the scientific methods adopted by the Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA). These methods emphasize the documentation of archaeological layers and events at the site, recording each layer or archaeological event—such as architectural elements—individually. The work also involved creating a comprehensive documentation database, as well as the conservation and restoration of antiquities, and the preparation of rehabilitation and development plans for these sites. Among the most prominent sites are: the Fortress of Banu Waqif, Bir Gharees, Bir Al-Khatam, the Mosque of the Battle of Banu Qurayza, and the Farms of Banu Umayyah ibn Zayd 1 and 2.
